Samsung PN58A650 58″ Plasma Review by T. Dalke:
I’m quite the techy nerd so I did spend a ton of time researching and reading Samsung PN58A650 Reviews and material before deciding that it was actually a pretty sound and good purchase. I had looked at a few other brands but they just couldn’t seem to match the quality that Samsungs Series 6 plasmas offered for the price, making them easily the best deals out of the available high end plasma HDTVs on the market.
I Have previously owned a Samsung FPT5084 plasma TV so I had a great and highly reviewed television to benchmark my new PN58A650 TV against, so if the rest of my Samsung PN58A650 review sound like I’m comparing it to something, it’s the previous generation FPT5084 plasma unit.
Picture Quality, Contrast, Color and Black Level:
After I had spent some time playing with and calibrating the PN58A650’s setting to match my desired levels and match my room’s lighting and such, it was off to the races with this awesome TV. Factory settings were pretty decent for you average type of living room like I guess mine could be… but you really can get a much nicer looking picture if your look up some settings and calibrate all the various options and available setting to match your room.
Picture quality is a perfect 10 out of 10 after said tweaks and adjustments, and really just blows all other 1080P full HD sources I have ever seen, and definitely a major MAJOR difference is easily noticeable over the year younger sibling to the PN-58A650. Contrast is amazing, Color is deep and vivid and really beautiful, and Black levels will blow any techie or previous plasma owner away with an easy to spot difference… although you might not be able to truly appreciate the sheer picture difference if the this series 6 plasma is your first foray into true high definition and if you still blown away by the sheer size of a 58 inch TV.
Heat Distribution / Buzzing:
One of my only complaints of my previous Plasma from Samsung was that it seemed to give off quite a darn bit of heat (which scares you and reminds you constantly to not leave it on all day long) and a rather noticeable buzzing noise when all other ambient noise was secluded and the volume on the TV was low) The Samsung PN58A650 seems to have it much better than its predecessor and is much cooler after long periods with very little to none noticeable noise even at very low sound settings – not much of a selling feature, but nice to not have a single complaint but this really!
Image Blur, Ghosting, Burning images:
Now this might get some of the non techies confused but basically these three things are “having certain image ambience burnt into the panel, bleeding color around edges, and noticeable image distortion during fast movement on the screen.
There is absolutely no noticeable Blurring or Ghosting like some movie scenes and video games used to product on my older FPT5084 Plasma, while maybe some but I have became so accustomed to it and there is such a noticeable improvement on the series 6 58” plasma that I feel like saying it’s absolutely perfect in the facets. I have tried to make it burn in, but with my setting (brightness is usually the culprit in burnt-in images) it seems like I won’t ever have a problem with bleeding and burning like some older plasma users report.
Absolutely awesome in these arenas and a definitive improvement over all older generation Samsung plasmas and most other on the market that I have read reviews for and researched.
Overall Feeling:
Overall the Samsung PN58A650 58” plasma TV has lived up to all my expectations and the hype that came along with really researching its performance and reading many PN58A650 Reviews had brought. It is a truly magnificent piece of technology and still continues to drop my mouth in shock while watching the latest and greatest in high definition picture and multimedia. I would totally recommend it as a current owner and as a techno super geek with lots of experience and research under my wing… It’s easily one of the best HDTVs out there for the price, performance and size available on the market and if it can satisfy me… it can satisfy even the toughest and most demanding critic!
